SECOND RODEO is the follow-up to Emily’s 2023 album RAPTURE, a record which saw a breakthrough in Emily’s 20-year music career with further support at Radio X, Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing, XS Manchester and QBS Radio(Qatar).
SECOND RODEO contains more tales from a life well lived as a hopeless romantic, dreamer and degenerate, which range from depictions of the rituals and habits of teenagers in the late 90s in ‘1997’ to a Beatnik-inspired hymn delivered at breakneck speed in ‘The Beatniks’, to a multiverse-spanning tale of the cosmic life cycle of a relationship in ‘We Were Lovers’… to a fuzzed-out shoegaze cover of Paul's Simon’s iconic ‘Graceland.
lyrics
The Beatniks believed we should excavate our dreams
For some strange state of ecstasy
It's in your pulse and your heartbeat and the way that you breathe
It's in the myths that we make out of our memories
It's in the rhythm of the city and the song of the streets
The whispering trees to the flowers of the fields
It's in the cycles of the moon and the sermon of the sea
It's in the never ending march of technology
From the flint to the wheel to the sentient machines
Who are learning to paint and write poetry
Its in the spirit that passess between you and me
Some strange state of ecstasy
Today on this one and only day
That you and I will never live again
Let's stay in bed and watch T.V
And drift into eternity
Cos I'm sick of being cynical for the first time in my life
You know these days are getting darker
And I've lived 15000 nights
Having a beer with you is holy
There's no such thing as wasted time
So come on lay your hands upon me
Trace the cables and the wires
Cos 18000 gods believe, the scientists they all agree
In some strange state of ecstasy, yeah some strange state of ecstasy
You know, Patti Smith she sang to me, Leonard Cohen and Lou Reed
About some strange state of ecstasy, some strange state of ecstasy
Today on this one and only day
That you and I will never live again
Let's stay in bed and watch T.V, Let's stay in bed and watch T.V
Let's stay in bed and watch T.V, Let's stay in bed and watch T.V
Let's stay in bed and watch T.V, Let's stay in bed and watch T.V
And drift into eternity

Before every vacation, I face the challenge of finding fresh music that is dynamic but not too hard, and that is so emotional and catchy that it doesn't get on my nerves after just two days of touring. During that search I discovered OBEY ROBOTS and it took me only a few moments to put "One in a thousand" on the playlist. The album rocks, combines strong "Therapy?"-like guitars with Laura's soulful, distinctive vocals to quite a few hits, just check "One of these days" or "Next Summer"! H.L.
Discovered She makes war from the Songwriter's suite podcast. Been listening for weeks daily on Spotify at work, so had to buy th cd.
Beautifully sung, catchy and melodic. At the moment, this is looking like my favourite album of 2016 Christopher Rollason
